Ukraine Scouts
18th March 2022

Sometimes, we must remember to do the right, as we see the right.
This week 4 Scouts from Ukraine ‘were made honorary members to our Group’ whilst I was away with work. They know if they ever make it to Nottingham, the door is always ready to be opened. The kettle can be on and a friendly welcome is awaiting them. We will make this so if they ever come. This though I’m afraid is somewhat unlikely.
They thanked us for the Neckers; they had none of their own (they’d left them behind as they’d fled their homes). But it was nice to see the desire to swap Scouty things was still there!!!
We sat down and our discussion revolved around a belief that they are not on their own. That we acknowledge their hardships and support where we can. That their job is not to fight unless provoked, but to support their families and younger siblings in these most difficult and hard times.
Also distributed; 10 foil anti-hypothermia blankets, a waterproof coat, some jeans and T-shirts to share amongst their families who are sheltering.
I do not believe it is poignant nor dignified to take or post photos of people in distress- so forgive me for that.
We can but hope for their future.
